Wheels of Change

Picture this, a person who is sick of jumping through hoops all his/her life being told that "if s/he just works harder things will be better."

That's the line... If you fail it's because you are lazy. You should be able to provide for your family, make things better in your community, raise a more perfect child or in our case, grind on the ideal Brooks saddle. Anything short of that and you loose.

Then one comes to the understanding of the vast differences between the rich and poor and one begins to believe the system is rigged. It is one thing to live with some winners and some losers. It is something else when the disparity between those results is such vast outcomes.

Then it is decided that something must be done.

It happened with a French farmer
It happened with a Tunisian student

It could be that Madison is the Tunisia of North America. Perhaps our people are not as stupid as the media has made us out to be. Maybe this time we will collectively see the writing on the wall.

From our perspective we see a systemic removal our ability to debate ideas. The effect of short attention spans is building a society of mental toddlers. This is more than enough to cause us to throw up our arms in anger. Unless we do something different we are going to continue to get more of the same bullshit treatment.

This is not as simple as most people would have it. If we are to ever get beyond this back and forth of economy vs ecology we have to start understanding how they are related. Its not enough to just say, "stop growing the economy." But we also dont have to wait for someone else to figure it our for us and hand us a cure.

wino bike lovers choices restricted

One of the classic images of bike porn. This image is ubiquitous. It appears in more ads, bike shops, and timeless posters than any other.

Yet, the image of freedom associated with flying naked with a bike does not go over so well with everyone. Naturally some are offended when beautiful women go naked bike flying.

So much so that a wine maker who uses this image is having its bottles pulled in Alabama.

I don’t care where you live: when it comes to sexual expression, we all live in Alabama.

We are passing thou from the SW to the South. Wish us luck. (actually the South has been better to us than the North or the Midwest so we are pretty fn stoked!)

While we wouldn't hesitate to call ourselves heroes we are still able to acknowledge and possibly even support a fellow two-wheeled crime fighter in action. So it is with some honor (avoiding a confrontation after tossing your bike into oncoming traffic... probably smart! not quite as brave tho) that we bestow onto this marginally heroic person the Bikesexual Crimefigher of the Month Award (if anyone wants to actually make a sweet graphic depicting a bikesexual crimefighter that would be great).

The Story of MORE Stuff

A while back we shared the original Story of Stuff with everyone we could. What a marvelous way to clearly explain our connections to economic, social and environmental actions. Plus Annie Leonard... Rarrr!

She has just come out with a video for our newest greenwashed anti-heros: CrAP and TiRADE.

We shouldn't be surprised that a lot of the "answers" to our problems are making things worse.

But there is hope even for those who would only fuck bikes and then probably masturbate too frequently (no fingers being pointed, just saying...). Sharing info with others!

If you happen to live in the Portland area you are commanded to take note!

Conrad Schmidt, creator of The Work Less Party and The World Naked Bike Ride is coming to Portland and will be joining in a radical forum discussion about the future. He will be talking about his new book, Efficiency Shifting and how if we are just a little smart about economics the future might not suck (figuratively). Where as we will be able to talk at length about how it will totally suck (literally). So you can see how this is going to be a festive time.

No firm dates as of yet but it is expected to happen around February 11th. Could a naked ride follow the discussion?

This holiday season give the gift of knowledge. Drink deeply from those juices. Let the power of understanding fill you and then do something rad.

doing it "Brittish Style" Embarrisingly SFW

While there isn't much skin in this video it will def get a rise out those regularly finding themselves involved in tweed riders (or looking at classic bike porn, aka pictures of tweed rides)

Rad Balls

Maybe it is the "all business" way the team was shown or maybe it is the way he gently placed a towel on the bench but we are convinced that this movie could be expanded into a feature length bikeporn. Definitely the extended credit sequence conveys their raw power (did you feel a little tingle when they showed "Coaches"?). Although we might have to change up the speed metal for Queensryche this movie has great potential! We're not sure how the rest of it will play out but suffice it to say we are hopeful.

Without a doubt those bikes will be used as a plot device for some sort of movie in the next 3 years. Count it!

Ghost Bikes. Not Sexy!

Fascinating about death may make teenagers and Food Batchmakers wet in their pants but why is death often considered erotic?

It is just the taboo nature? Is it finding comfort in between a new friend's legs after a wake? Is it that we frequently find naked women with weapons surrounded by a bloodthirsty horde?

The idea that bikers must have a death wish to be traveling on the streets in anything so unsafe is one of the more infuriating justifications for not feeling guilt when driving.

When it comes to cycling we at Bike Porn Industries have a more challenging time keeping death sexy. So we dont.

We do however recognize that the cycle of life includes death and humping and sometimes what you are humping can help create more life.

The point is, riding bikes is fucking sexy, and while saying things like, "the dead will ride" is pretty sweet, mostly the dead are just dead, ie not sexy.

Our friends over at Urban Velo have just released their 11th issue with a feature on Ghost Bikes. Such respect to our fallen compatriots is noble if not sobering. link to the article
