ReMembering Denver

We are blessed to have great art to share. All the different artists who chose to express their ideas give cause to bring a local community together.

But it is really that community brought together to enjoy and explore that make a screening an experience.

Some nice folks over at Westwood in Denver asked to join us in documenting the spandex covered glory.

Soon our sleek caravan will begin the sojourn home to Cascadia. Boise polo on Wednesday perhaps?

Remembering Kelsey

Bike Porn Industries solemnly mourns the passing of our of its greatest supporters and instigators.

Kelsey Rolf died in her sleep this past Sunday. 10/10/10

She was 23.

She may in fact be the first bike porn star to die. We have not been keeping perfect records, alas. The genre of "bike porn" has come to fruition via countless inspired fucking bike perverts. We can not imagine a single person who has embodied our principles more.

From the 1st moment she was seen riding the saddle of a fixed gear bike while in front of her a teen aged boy was cranking the pedals as she relentlessly flogged him, we knew she would be a force to be reckoned with. Since that moment she was able to push other's limits and challenge our brains and bodies, our wry and wit, not to mention our stamina and patience.

Besides being a hot, badass biker, she was also active protecting those without a voice. She loved animals; when in Portland she worked at doggy daycare, and just before her death was highly prized at Seattle's Exotic Veterinary. She was vegetarian or vegan most of her life but while she was proud of her choices she affirmed other's rights to make their own choices. We are reminded of Mother Mary Jones "afflicting the comfortable and comforting the afflicted."

So much more than a sexual object... she subjugated sex!

We will miss the humor, the glamor, the style, and the snark.

Services will be held this Sunday, October 17th at The Woods in the Sellwood neighborhood of Portland, Oregon.

We expect tears and cake.

Our condolences go out to her husband, Tom, of dirty surfing fame.

Donations in her name can be made to the Oregon Humane Society, or alternatively go to a place where you can buy cheap, used clothing, get something bizarre, trashy or otherwise out of context for your surroundings and send in a picture of your enjoyment for life.

She will be missed.

reMembering Detroit

Detroit. The motor city that has been running on empty since the 70s provided one hell of a good time for us!

Besides being able to explore the vast wasteland and NOT get arrested for trespassing we also got to ride with the best critical mass crew we had seen in many a moon. Srsly, they took care to make pertinent announcements stating their intentions, giving some degree as to the history, and also pimping the fun times that were about following the ride!

Moreoever we had excellent fucking hosts who decided that we should be adorned with a huge fucking awesome warehouse party, complete with stripping fire dancers. A well stocked boozatorim with a heavy pouring bartender, and a smattering of slick art from local bike lovers.

BTW did you know that Detroit had bike lovers? I know! crazy!!

Here is a fantastic video made during critical mass. Thankfully the place filled up pretty nice by the time the show started...

And what a show! We were able to get local nut job/ writer/ self-deprecating gentleman Jimmy Doom to step to the mic for some inspired rantings including a bike porn inspired bit about his momma writing a note to his pastor decrying his bikesexuality. Hilarious and on topic? STUNNING!

The audience was in pretty good mood, from the glorious weather that baked out hot bodies to the discounted entry for those riding bikes or the even more discounted price to those not wearing pants! How better to encourage watching dirty films but to remove those annoying leg garments!

By the end of the movies and our live performances the audience was... well pretty excited. And why shouldn't they be. Having a team of sexy bikers singing and stripping and cavorting is about the best way to make a room full of mature adults primed for more explicit action. Of course we are only setting the stage for such activities. Anything done by sex hungry bike sluts following a screening of Cycle Bound is purely on the shoulders (and booties) of the consenting adults.

Still we are happy to encourage folks to express themselves so, you could also say that while we don't explicitly encourage any specific behavior we also don't forbid many things either.

We are truly blessed and if we can do it next year we are gonna go with our hosts idea to combine the screening with a weekend of building chariots for a massive rolling party of destruction. Sure Portland* has for several years hosted Chariot Wars, but only in a small space of limited post apocalyptic insanity. Consider the differences when you have your choice of warehouses that are completely vacant, and have been for over a decade. Hell not just a few buildings, we are talking about entire blocks.

Get your battle armor ready but leave the foam behind. This is Detroit. Find a piece of scrap metal.

*We promised to not compare Portland to other cities. But this is not a comparison, right? But just to swell your concerns about our fascination with our hometown we will try to not even make a reference to PDX for 72 hours.

In the meantime, please enjoy these fine pictures from our friend, Thomas L. Kula and our own Courtney Rodgers.

ReMembering Jacsonville

Here are some pictures and random memories from our final stop in Florida:

There was bikes and sexual perversion... IT WAS GREAT!

Behold, our hosts and performers who are probably both mostly hetero in their sexual persuasion totally giving it up for each other following an epic transformation of the Zombie Bikes new space into a micro theater and venue for rad music.

awesome.

This was probably the most well received screening since we left Salt Lake!

It was a strange screening in many ways. The audio was just quiet enough that people had to listen intently, but just loud enough that people could hear the great commentary from the crowd.

"RIDE THAT SHIT!"

"More jizz!"

Put it in her bottom bracket!"

It was a pretty spectacular night, with outstanding hosts (even though most all of our hosts have been outstanding, which technically speaking does not seem possible).

We had a polo court that was built that day and had lights and scaffolding from a volunteer who drove over an hour just to play a few games.

There was low to no cost beer, which flowed with sustained fortitude for most of the evening.

Of course that particular social lubricant doesn't hurt when you are talking about making friends and strangers watch erotic movies in public together.

But even without this alcohol we think that the Jacsonville crew would have been absoultly stoked about what they saw.

The evening capped with a pair of live bands who totally made the people rock out as they striped and sang and dance until they lost their collective zombie minds.

Now then... get ready for CycleSLAUGHTERaMAMA, where we are playing the the legion of bike punks Friday night!

Florida reMembered

We are blasting out of America's limp dick like a well lubed condom.

Our big thanks to the mighty hanging wang of Florida whose bikesexual population consisted of great hosts, great audiences, great getting it on and generally experiencing natural wonders from tip to scrotum, er panhandle.

Manhandling such a state with such an impressive electoral college might be intimidating for some, but our intrepid team would not be daunted by size or status. In fact we are developing a hypothesis about if we were prevented from playing Tallahassee due to their state capitol building's pronounced... uh excitement. It could be that bike porn would overwhelm the already incredibly erect and rigid Governor's office.

Perhaps the most beautiful thing about this leg of the tour was how the reputation of the shows preceded us to our next location with such fervor. Having a drooling audience before you even make the introductions is great for our ego so we hope the sexy bike folk of Jacksonville, Sarasota, Orlando, Gainesville, and Pensacola will continue to pressure their friends, family members and random strangers.

keep it flaccid, FL... on to Georgia! (which is tragically without any notable phallus shape)

Get ready for shows in Savannah, Atlanta, Asheville, and maybe Winston-Salem!

ReMembering Oregon, a discussion of sexuality

Hey now, two shows into the Backlash Tour and we are already getting some FANfuckingTastic reviews of Bike Porn 3: Cycle Bound.

Grace Pettygrove's article of the bike porn screening and discussion at The University of Oregon totally hits the mark. Her column includes a number of gems like this:

The featured shorts in “Cycle Bound” reflect a diversity of ideas about what sex is, could be and should be. Some of the movies are pure comedy, parodying clichés in the porn industry or playing up any available visual puns offered by the bicycle frame. Several films feature nude Portland bikers doing awesome things on their Franken-bikes: dive-bombing hills, playing games and racing around the city. Conceptually, this still falls under the category of porn: For a Portland bike cultist, tall-bike jousting is as good as sex.

Curious, we have been promised tall bike sex for so long, its almost upsetting. And really the way some people have sex is a lot more like jousting than they would probably like to admit.

But rather than just call it a bit of nice, fluffy university media, Pettygrove goes one step further and begins to inspect and possibly even unravel the nature of sex positivity.

I also came to question the limits of the sex positivity movement. Can such a cerebral distinction actually draw the line between exploitation and empowerment? Though there were obvious elements of role reversal and satire in the raciest moments of Bike Porn — including a short that used a child’s bicycle to parody the concept of “kiddie porn,” and a scene in Tour de Pants that looked a lot like gang rape — I don’t imagine that a victim of sexual exploitation or assault could sit through the whole presentation and feel empowered.

Indeed. Just as one man's treasure is another man's cum bucket, so too there is no way to allow vast freedoms of expression without potentially ruffling a few feathers. That said another viewing might show that the "victim" of the gang rape gave verbal agreement to consent not once, but twice! Yea, we didn't notice it the 1st time either and it definitely is not using a very rigorous standard. (could she be expressing verbal agreement without actually providing informed conscent?)

The evening was punctuated by a surprisingly coherent expression of bikesexuality by almost everyone in attendance. The classroom was able to agree on a few points:

Either way, thanks for asking good questions. If there is a limit on the value of sex-positive culture we hope we never find it!

The show last night in Ashland was fantastic. What an amazing venue! They even had chairs! We were asked which hotel we stole our robes from and also had a request for unicycle porn.

On our way to San Francisco, with a possible polo turny in the works on Saturday!

Vancouver REmembered

How does it feel to be loved by cascadia? Well bookstores are awesome and frequently have zines and they are also awesome.

And tall bikes seem to be pretty common/porn worthy

When it lived in NYC this was quite possibly the fastest tall bike in the city. Now its just back to probably being the fastest tall bike in a Vancouver garage. Pretty tarck worthy, with big gears, bladed carbon fork, light stiff steel, and enough height that you only have to worry about the side view mirrors on delivery trucks clipping your handlebars.you can also see the head tube is also bladed for extra reinforcement. We used to have those similar spinergy Sprox wheels that are made with noodle like spokes of kevlar. A special tool is required to true the wheels (naturally, fuckers)

We didnt't go inside this place with glowing meats, and dancing pigs but we hear its BIG. instead we picked up material at DressSew just down the street. A new screen for projecting movies onto will be available soon!

you have a dirty mind, that is why you came to this blog. its ok to admit it.

actually we were able to make some decent coin off our little show in Vancouver. Great turnout and lots of excited bikers wanting to make some of their own bike porn! But yea the Olympics are still pretty fucked.

Thanks Vancvouver!

Pictures from Victoria soon,

ReMembering Eugene

Fleshback to Eugene one year ago. The plucky residents of Campbell Club willingly agree to host a curious idea. Bolstered by former sex-positive residents who could speak to the wonder and joy of Bikexploitation the perpetual students of Eugene open their doors (among other things) to the cadre of horny cyclists.

Their largest room is full to capacity packed in like massive ball bearings. The excited audience cheers gleefully, "Lets go on a naked bike ride!" The crowd pours out of the hall and into the streets. Hours later a spandex clad dance party rages in the kitchen until dawn.

Fleshforward to 2009. What will come of the poor unsuspecting viewers this year? What kind of reaction can be expected when the porn is turned up to eleven?

Shock? Inspiration? Perspiration? Time will tell, but we will not. What happens on Bike Porn Tour stays in the chamois. Its like a virus, but it is beneficial, so don't abstain, just relax, get comfortable, enjoy the show and when the time comes, scream out loud with exuberance.

  • Saturday December 5th
  • Campbell Club
  • 1670 Alder St Eugene, OR
  • 7:30pm, 18+
  • $5 donation
  • naked bike ride to follow

josh guest post #2

Bike porn infamous tour chronicles -Ashland

"The Party Queen"

I only tolerated her as long as I did because of the bottle of SoCo that was in her possession...

But as bottles usually do, it ran out within a matter of time. Even with the liquor she was proving a difficult person to deal with. If caught in conversation with her, which was a daunting cliff to climb out of, you constantly felt your I.Q. slipping a couple points. And then there was the laugh, or was it the mating call of a giraffe with a sore throat, I forgot to ask. [moreover EVERY utterance was punctuated by said laugh making it a trademark behaviour - ed]

After the nights festivities I passed out, only to be awaken by that oh so familiar mating call and John Mayer covering Cyndi Lauper... I think. Apparently, while I had passed out, party queen on going at it, and was now approaching the “i don't give a fuck that everyone's asleep and Shania Twain is the shit, I'm gonna blast it!!!!” stage that we all know and love. Fortunately she knew she was obnoxious and annoying everyone, unfortunately the only way she felt to make it up to us was to turn up the “jams” and offer us this explanation:

*For more enjoyment, read the following section in the eloquent voice of a sorority valley girl all coked up and ready to make you curse god and/or evolution for giving you the ability to hear.

“Sorry for partying!!!! But this is how I do it, not in Portland but when I'm here this is what happens,

I work seven days a week, twelve hours a day with kids! So when I party I listen to shitty music and dance and I'm obnoxious!”

she carried on with this speech from couch to couch apologizing to the people who were already sleeping, what a saint. Two things came to mind when she approached the futon that I was trying to enjoy. One, Doesn't she have to work tomorrow? And if she thinks her own music is shitty why listen to it as well force others to deal with it?

One brave fellow, was waging a passive aggressive war with her by turning off the music, only to have her turn it back on. The party queen felt she had found a sympathetic ear in mine and confided that “I don't give a fuck, I don't live here now but I did, and that was before he did!! and I don't give a fuck!!!! he's dating my best friend and she was awesome before, I mean she still is...” I couldn't understand the rest of her babbling but she concluded with her signature catch phrase “i don't give a fuck! (insert sore throat giraffe mating call here)”. Thankfully I was the distraction and the aforementioned saint struck a dagger into that ugly dragons heart in the form of hiding the ipod from hell away. from its owner. After a few slammed doors and a “i don't give a fuck!!” we the oppressed were freed from tyranny of that party queen.

- Tanx Josh and tanx Ashland! We hope to return someday and see what kind of real trouble we can get into. Only Corvallis and Eugene remain... wait until December 3rd

reMembering Tucson

It is great to be able to write articles over time. For example when this was 1st written it made sense:
Some of our hosts have requested that we take a moment to remember some of the happenings in the various cities. Seems like the kinda thing that might happen frequently but more likely this will be the only one, so enjoy it fucckos!
Now it seems silly and pointless. Suck is life...

Remembering Tucson aka Chukson

Our friends from the Detritus Network had been scheming to bring rad bike folk to the Southwest for some time. This visit was the impetus for the entire trip and much of the timing of events that have transpired have been due to this.

Fuh-Kin-Rhad is how the native settlers to this area might have described this weekend. It was Dry River's third year of operating a radical resource space. Of course they needed a major party to celebrate. We have only shown both movies on the same visit in 2 other cities (Seattle and SLC, both bike porn meccas in their own right) and nowhere in Arizona, New Mexico or Texas has The Pornography of the Bicycle been screened.

Dry River is also dry, as in no alcoholic beverages are consumed on premises. As some of you might already know this can be challenging for some working though thier various stances on pornography. Nevertheless our troops were able to muster though masterbaterfully.

Both screenings were at capacity, which was exciting to see although neither of them generated much money. This frustrated our hosts and organizers greatly:
"All these kids come drive down from the suburbs in their parents cars and plead poverty. I just want to shake them soundly and yell, 'Ask your mom for $2 you spoiled brat!'
Still it was exciting to see all the overwhelmed faces straining to understand what they had just seen, including a performance by the Whiskey Breath Burslque who in their creative-ly stripping-mocking fashion were the first people we heard using the phrase, "Obama-Nation" only days after he won the November election.

A front runner in "The most uncomfortable moment of the Westward Ho! tour award" goes to a lanky bearded fellow following the screening. A person resembling Brent Barber of the Bicycle Film Festival hounded our pornographers for about an hour. He had many of the same facial expressions and kinda awkward behaviors as Brent. Perhaps a relative?

He was very interested in many of the "secrets" of the bike porn bizness... how many submissions we receive and other such insider info. Could this lead to some sort of cross bike film festival showdown? Conspiracy theorists, please comment below.

Over the course of the weekend we were able to to a radio interview on Free Radio ChukShon with Estaban Caliente.

The bike porn interview starts at 41:30, but the entire program is about bikes and features bike related songs by Tom Waits, Pink Floyd, Public Enemy, Clinetle, Chumbawumba and others. Plus listeners will learn the origin of the name "Tucson" which we found fascinating.

We were able to partake in the All Soul's Procession. 1000s of joyful mourners parade down the street in costumes and face paint, carrying photos or otherwise remembering those souls lost.

Then there was Bicas. Possibly the most amazing bike shop we have visited on this tour. There was an enormous collection of well organized parts with lots of instructional signs to help people learn more about bike repair. A few workers there were overjoyed that we were coming, but many (possibly most?) of the shop folk were specifically avoiding the show at all costs. Nevertheless the ones that did come were very stoked and connected us with some bike polo players, who turned out for some sport two days in a row when they normally would not. We hope that with the half dozen new players who showed up will become regulars to the sport will get connected with the growing international hardcourt polo movement and visit us in PDX sometime.

Thanks to our hosts who showed us the size of the local cactus.

REmembering ABQ

Albuquerque (or ABQ for those in a rush) is a sort of liberal city in a fairly conservative state. The comparative differences between New Mexico and Arizona is one of the favorite topics for residents in both states.

Biking around we didn't find much excitement... or even traffic. It was after 7pm and the city doesn't have much of a nightlife, which is to say it is pretty great to ride around without traffic. This def not the case in in the afternoon, when simultaneously every car in the city appears out of every hole and nook to claim their personal space on the road.

We were able to find an empty park with a caged basketball court that we deemed hardcourt bike polo worthy... being able to put each other into the fence almost made us feel at home. If ever you find yourself at the Agency and suddenly you feel the need to play polo here are some directions.

We played a festive round of "PSI Thigh" or "Pinch a Sexy Inch" where a team of judges squeezed bikers most impressive muscles. A little live interaction is great to get the crowd into the spirit. The show went perfect, The Agency did a great job making sure it looked and sounded great.

The show was well promoted by Basement Films with lots of well groomed cyclists and bike punks filling the venue. Basement Films is an excellent, profitless organization that has an impressive library of old film reels. After our screening they took time to show us some their favorites. "Double Talk" a racy 1975 short starring Robert Picardo (the Doctor from Star Trek Voyager) shows us a beavercleaver-style family meeting their daughter's young suitor.

After watching a few reels we were feeling the need to do some reeling of our own and staked out in search of stumble juice. Somehow the Twinks were not able to get into the bar thus there was only a solo pornographer alone with a gaggle of tossed Obama supporters. We swapped stories for a min while they ogled the polo mallet.

Miraculously they were convinced to step outside where the twinks sprang into action, talking about bike crap and generally ignoring the democratically belligerent ladies who were now trying to get us to join them on a ride.

"We have whiskey and weed and you can crash on the floor"

Ah, well, if that is what is required of us, so be it. We biked on, barely able to keep pace with the two women on cruisers. Eventually we caught up to them and then we were off road, dodging bushes like we were gay cabana boys at a cougar convention. The girls decided they would take this opportunity to get wet and we were in no position to offer suggestions. We did try to explain how cold riding home will be if they didn't remove their clothes, but sometimes explaining is not enough. As it turns out the Rio Grande is not all that warm in late October at 2am. However it is muddy so we just barely made ourselves compliant with their requests to "Join us!" by wadding shin high. After the girls fell in and were soaked a few times we headed off again, now turning North along the river and a few parks.

Much whiskey and many blunts were consumed. Actually this night may have consisted of the highest quality of smoke and drink for the entire trip. A never ending dance party commenced but in lieu of being oversexual the girls were committed to being coy and the boys were committed to being lazy. This kind of combination normally ends with regret on someone's behalf, but at some point various members were dragged onto a bed from where they had collapsed on the floor. Sounds of sleeping were not heard.

our viewers had this to say:

"Had a great time at the show, and got to see a few fixers in various states of undress. Well worth the admission price!"

ABQ, you are the greatest place we know of in the curious state of New Mexico.

thanks to Detroit Import, Target Salad, Chantal Foster, and Kittroid,
