saddle up filmmakers

The Bicycle Film Festival and Bike Smut have a bit of history. We have pretty similar missions, to encourage cycling via the power of movies and more than one filmmaker has made great movies for both of us.

Movies are a powerful medium. The tools to create your own have never been more accessible.

Now is the time

Make a fucking bike movie!

Q: What is wrong with women?

Tre excitement! A new documentary that has been struggling with issues of distribution has been green lighted for limited release.

Suffering through the torment of the indy video circuit for two years is enough to win our empathy (cause we knew that we didn't have the patience), but that they are talking about sexual health in a matter of fact manner has just about won us over.

We dont pay to see many movies these days, and with the exception of Winter Bone we haven't encouraged others to sit and watch cause there is usually a better view if you are straddling steel. Still, we have high hopes for Orgasm Inc.

Good luck, Liz Canner!

A: the same thing that is wrong with men.

We mean that in a good way, that you might have some fucking sex. Good fucking sex at that. If not with someone else consider using the appropriate tool.

Funny, serious, gay, straight, if you think it’s hot, we want to see it in 7 minutes or less. Our 2010 Grand Prize Winner will receive $1,500 at the Castro Theatre in San Francisco on September 23rd! Submission deadline is June 30, 2010. Visit www.gv-ixff.org for official Rules and Regulations.

==========================================

Ok, so we're jealous. We want to be able to give away big prizes and wads... of dollar bills. We even have a plan for profit sharing for filmmakers! Well not so much a plan as a vision. But presently we dont have much, but if you are a struggling something-or-other uh, how you say... filmmaker, than you might consider doing something really great and getting paid.

If not our call for entries is even earlier: May 10th 2010. And we haven't even had the official internerd announcement yet. But just you wait, the artwork on this is the stuff coconut dream cream pies are made of.

Bike Porn on Crank My Chain

Our multitalented friends at Crank My Chain host a live internerdical interview with Bike Porn directions and curators. We plan to talk about the upcoming world premiere of Bike Porn 3: Cycle Bound although there is a chance that things will dissolve into boring talk about "who tasered who..." but we hope to get some of the previous filmmakers to ping in and share their experiences.

Tune in next Wednesday, June 10th at 11am Pacific Standard Tiempo!

home, humpy home

Any homecoming feels great. Finding the comfort that was lost while one was away... reconnecting with bikes and riding friends.

Portland we missed you. But it was grand to come home to such fucking bicycle beauty. Filmed by Bike, Portland's original homegrown bike movie festival held it down in impressive style. What organizational mastery. 1000s of bikers yelling and drinking and showing off the goods all weekend long at the Clinton St Theater.

It means something special to us that so many 1st time filmmakers are pushing the envelope. What saucy upstarts!

Speaking of starting up with the sauce,
our favorite drinking club with a biking problem is on the verge of hosting another bike movie festival

The Dead Baby Bikes International Independent Film Festival, or DBBIIFF (pronounced deh-BEH-ff, we think) is Thursday, May 1st. If you are in Seattle sick around an extra day and join the monthly "first Friday" club ride on the 2nd.

We hope more people will step up to help define what "bike porn" is for our community this coming season. The early deadline is rapidly approaching. Contact us if you are making something.

Calipornificaion Tour: disfrute bici pornografía

Scheduling shows has been challenging. Even though I gave myself more than 2 months of lead time it seems that there is never enough preparation. Just this week a stunning blow came when I learned the venue I had hoped to use in SF could not fit in with our travel schedule, by one day!

oh the suffering.

That is why it feels so very good to have verbal confirmation of The Vine Theater in LA. We are still in negotiations but expect the screening to be on Friday, December 28th.

There are so many cool people in LA. If I had not gone there for Bikesummer I might not even believe how great they are.

Thanks to C.I.C.L.E. and Ashira for their support!

Local Blogger writes story about blog

I suppose it doesnt get better than this:

http://bikeportland.org/2007/09/19/local-filmmaker-takes-bike-porn-on-the-road/
I particularly enjoy this nuggget from the article:
You might be familiar with the term “bike porn” — it’s become a sort of slang for photos of gorgeous bikes — but trust me, this is something completely different.
HA! Take that all you old school bike pornographers. Your high detail shot of a 1900s lugged track frame with wood spokes is in yesterday's jizz bucket. (although I'd love a picture of this)

Presently there is more "bike porn" out there than I can wade though with a T1 connection and a bucket of tri-flo. Still, I get to imagine the day that I can hire Jonathan away to write all this crapulence for me.

Search for "johathan maus naked" on google. Its fun!
